FoCul Sponsors 1,029 mile Cycle Ride

FoCul is proud to have sponsored the Lucite International Annual Cycle ride for the second year.
The team of 7 cyclists cycled a total of 1,029 miles from Lands End to John O'Groats via 4 of the companies sites ( Southampton, Darwen, Billingham and Newton Aycliffe )

Some other stats include; 16 punctures for 5/7 riders, 5/7 fell at some point, average speed of 14mph and they climbed in total just under 21km – 2½ times Everest - over the nine days!

The following is an extract from the team newsletter :

Dear Sponsor,

We’re back and almost recovered from the epic journey.
The official mileage as calculated from satellite and trip computer saw the seven of us cover 1,029miles. Some other stats include; 16 punctures for 5/7 riders, 5/7 fell at some point, average speed of 14mph and we climbed in total just under 21km – 2½ times Everest - over the nine days!

As mentioned previously, when we first thought of the idea it seemed a daunting prospect and in reality it was as tough as we thought. At the back of our minds were several things, but remembering the monies pledged and the charities we were riding for eased the pedals over. So thanks again for you and your Companies support. This sponsorship equates to just under £12,500. So with the personal sponsorship we will go some way past the original target and on to an even bigger number. Our aim is to collect all our monies by end of July and so after this we will publish the final total.

So what of our memories now the “bum” has recovered? For the specifics you will need to ask the “Magnificent 7”.  But perhaps the picture opposite of day 1, says something of the trip. Mixed weather, rain on the ground and sun in the sky and always just another 10 miles to go before end of the day.
As you would expect we can all remember different parts be they for the good or not so good reasons; Nice views, warm sun, pouring rain, wet moors, long climbs, fast descents, parts of the UK not seen before or ever again, the odd puncture, someone else falling off, the football scores, snoring at night, the extra mile or two, the amount of food we ate, the comradeship or the bonhomie over a beer at night all made it a memorable expedition.

Would we do it again? I think the answer is yes, so we are now thinking of our next challenge.

As the picture shows it was hard work, but we all got there. And yes some people are wearing the same gear they left in.Thanks again for your support in words and kind. For your payments if you pass them back to one of the team with cheques made out to “Acc No. 03169049 W.Leonard Cancer Charity Bike Ride” we will bank ready for a presentation evening we plan to hold in August / September, which you will get an invitation to.

A BIG Thanks again.
